Introduction

PRP Hair Treatment

Our surgeons pride themselves on delivering natural, long-lasting results with minimal down time.

Hair Treatments have come such a long way from their inception, and we have learned that many complementary additions to Treatment can enhance hair regeneration. PRP, known as platelet-rich plasma, can be combined with a hair treatment to augment outcomes. PRP focuses on using your growth factors to stabilize and grow your hair.  To learn how a PRP during Hair Treatment in New York City can work for you, keep reading the information provided below.

The Basics

What is PRP and when do we use it during Hair Treatment?

Platelets circulate in your blood and contain powerful growth factors. We concentrate these growth factors and micro-inject them into hair follicles to stimulate growth.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections involve drawing a small amount of blood from the patient and then centrifuging it with specific medicines to concentrate the powerful growth factors and anti-inflammatory components of the blood. This “PRP” is then gently and painlessly injected into the hair loss area of the scalp. This process takes 30 minutes and demands no recovery time. With several PRP treatments, most of our patients notice their hair loss stops. Additionally, over 80% of our treated patient’s hair has grown thicker and denser.

It is this “lunchtime” treatment approach that has the most potential to help women patients with hair loss. However, it is also important to know that treating female hair loss is challenging and frustrating. At times, the responses to treatment can be less than hoped for and some patients grow disappointed with their outcomes. However, all patients coming through our center feel comforted they have done everything possible to improve the health and thickness of their hair. Additionally, many women with hair loss are candidates for a PRP hair treatment, but this does not fall into the “lunchtime” treatment category.

PRP Hair Treatment Timeline

  • Consultation (before treatment)

You will meet with one of our board-certified surgeons and have your scalp examined. After discussing every aspect of the treatment and your options, your procedure plan will be created. Our Patient Coordinator will help you select your surgical date when you are ready to move forward with the treatment.

    1st Visit
  • Day of PRP

After withdrawing your blood and putting it into our centrifuge to separate the PRP, it will be injected into strategic parts of your scalp. You will be able to return to work that same day, but your head will be slightly pink or reddish in the treatment area.

    2nd Visit
  • Days following SURGERY

There will be some swelling after a hair Treatment, particularly on your forehead and around your eyes. It’s important to sleep with your head elevated and avoid sleeping on your stomach and exercising during this time period. When you come in for an initial follow-up, your bandage will likely be removed.

    (days 1-5)
  • Weeks following SURGERY

The wounded area will significantly heal, scabs will start to fall out, and redness will start to disappear. You should continue to wash your hair gently to get rid of any residue or dead skin cells. The hair grafts will settle in and the resting period begins, during which you may experience minimal hair loss which is a natural occurrence.

    (weeks 2-4)
  • FOLLOW-UP

Hair strands start to get thicker and stronger each day, with total coverage reaching up to 80%. You will be able to comb your hair with a wide hair brush and trim your hair to get rid of any irregular hair strands or cut your hair with a shaver. Even though everything seems to be back to normal, be careful not to expose your hair to extreme hot or cold conditions.

What’s The First Step?

If you’re interested in getting a fuller head of hair in New York City, the first step is to schedule a PRP Hair Treatment consultation. During your appointment, you’ll have the opportunity to meet with one of our surgeons and discuss your goals for the treatment. They will evaluate your scalp and ask you some medical questions to ensure that you’re a good candidate for the procedure and that you’ll have a successful treatment and recovery.

Once all the necessary information has been collected, your customized procedure plan will be made. If you’re happy with the program and would like to move forward with it, our Patient Coordinator will help you schedule your treatment date.

What to Expect on the Day of a PRP Hair Treatment

On the day of your PRP Hair Treatment, we will first make sure that you are comfortable throughout your treatment. Most patients find that they can tolerate the hair growth injections without the need for a topical numbing cream, but if you prefer to use some, we are more than happy to oblige.

Your treatment will begin with your blood being drawn and placed into a centrifuge to create your PRP – the amount of blood needed is 25 times less than a blood donation. Once the PRP is separated, it will be collected and placed into a syringe. Your surgeon will meticulously place the PRP solution into the hair follicles on the scalp, spacing them approximately half an inch apart in areas of thinning or receding hair.

Each session is 45 minutes but can take a little longer depending on the amount of work required.

PRP Hair Treatment Recovery

After you are finished with your first session, you will be able to go home to recover comfortably. Downtime with a PRP Hair Treatment is minimal (one day or less), and most patients can return to work immediately after a PRP session, but you may still be a little sore from the treatment. During the first few hours after your session, your scalp will be a little pink or red in the treatment area. You should also wait one or two days before returning to your usual hair maintenance, such as blow drying, coloring, curling, etc.

You will be able to shower and wash your hair as soon as you get home, however, if you experience any pain or discomfort, do NOT apply an ice pack to your scalp as the cold can inhibit PRP activity. If you are experiencing any soreness, you may take over-the-counter pain medication as directed.

We insist on encouraging our patients to follow any post-procedure instructions we provide as this initial recovery period is vital in restoring hair thickness and volume.

Cost

How Much Does a PRP Hair Treatment Cost in New York City?

The cost of a PRP Hair Treatment in New York City will depend on several factors. These factors are based on how much treatment is needed and how you respond to the Treatment process. The best way to find out the price for your procedure is to come in for a consultation and get an evaluation by one of our hair Treatment surgeons.

Once they understand what you will require to get a full head of hair again, your surgical plan will be created and our Patient Coordinator can use that information to provide you with a pricing sheet that will break down everything for your treatment.
