What is the difference between FUT vs FUE?
A hair transplant involves taking hair from one place on the body (often the back of the head) and transferring the hair to a new location (recipient site). The fundamental unit of transfer is the follicular unit, and this is basically the seed from which hair grows.
There are two main methods to isolate a follicular unit: FUT and FUE.
FUT stands for follicular unit transfer, and is also known as the strip method. A strip of hair-bearing skin is removed and sutured closed. From the strip, the follicular units are hand dissected.
In contrast, FUE stands for follicular unit extraction and is also known as the dots method. A microdrill is used to remove individual hair follicles. This is a sutureless technique.
